Activities
Horse Country
Clanard Court is a proud member of Horse Country, celebrating the rich equine heritage of Kildare and beyond. Guests can discover the people, stories, horses and destinations that make this part of Ireland so special, with experiences suited to solo travellers, couples, families, groups and team-building stays.
Our most local Hero Horse Country Experiences are the Irish National Stud & Japanese Gardens, Kildangan Stud – Foal to Fame Tour – for both of these experiences we have special guest rates and The Jessica Harrington Racing Experience.
Biking
Guests can enjoy cycling in the area with the waterway cycle paths and new Barrow Blueway.
E-bikes are available to hire through locally based Kildare Bike Hire and be dropped and collected to hotel – special guest rates & packages are available.
Additional bikes, including children’s bikes, can be hired through Barrow Way Bikes in nearby Vicarstown.
An on-site bike station shelter is also provided in the hotel car park.
Walking
The hotel recommends a selection of local walking routes, ideal for taking in the surrounding countryside and nearby town scenery. These include a 3km loop on the outskirts of Athy, a 4km loop starting in Athy Town along the Barrow Track, along with routes on the Barrow Way and the Tow Path Trails of Kildare.
Golf
There are several excellent golf options nearby, with the current page highlighting Athy Golf Club and Kilkea Castle Golf Club, along with Kildare’s championship courses such as The K Club and Carton House. The page also notes that special golf rates are available for guests.
Boating on Local Waterways
For a more leisurely outdoor activity, guests can enjoy a boat trip on the Barrow with Athy Boat Tours, a great pairing with Shackleton Experience and a Local Walking Tour in Athy. Explore the waterways further with a trip on a narrowboat or barge experiences along the Grand Canal and River Barrow, alighting from nearby Vicarstown with Barrowline Cruisers.
