Thoroughbred Country, created by members of both the tourism and thoroughbred industries, is Ireland’s latest gem highlighting the rich equine tourism experiences across counties Kildare and Tipperary and sharing the wonderful stories, people, horses and destinations. Horses have been an integral part of Ireland’s cultural heritage for the last 2,000 years. They are at the heart of the Irish story, from mythical figures to modern-day thoroughbred champions. They have also been a big part of the Clanard Court Hotel's heritage with the owning Fennin Family being very involved. The late Willie 'Bailey' Fennin Senior who bred, owned and trained the race horse 'Athy Spirit' (photo below), who gained 10 career victories including the big Galway Races double in 1990. You can spot the horsey influences all around our hotel, which even feature in our gardens and in our cocktail list names!
